How do I make a records request from the Sheriff's Office?
You can make your request in person at our Shelton office or Belfair Annex, by Electronic Mail, or you may download our request form and mail or bring your completed form to one of our offices.
Notice: Inspection is free. Copies are subject to applicable county fees and the information provided is restricted from commercial use (RCW 42.56.070).

Mason County Sheriff’s Office explanation of records withheld or deletions/redactions of records requested:
- Complainant, Victim, or Witness requested the information not be disclosed. RCW
42.56.240.
- Disclosure of the information would endanger a person’s life, physical safety, or property. RCW 42.56.240.
- Record includes information non-disclosure that is essential to effective law enforcement. RCW 42.56.240.
- Record contains information the non-disclosure of which is necessary for the protection of a person’s right to privacy. RCW 42.56.230 and .240 as defined by RCW 42.56.050 (included Social Security Number).
- Record contains information on a juvenile, which is confidential, and may not be released to the public except by court order under provisions of RCW 13.50.050 and RCW 13.50.100(4)(a) and (b).
- Investigative file is currently active and non-disclosure is essential to effective law
enforcement. RCW 42.56.240.
- Information protected under the Criminal Records Privacy Act. RCW 10.97.
- Jail records including booking photos are protected. RCW 70.48.100.
- Medical information is protected. RCW 70.02.005 and RCW 42.56.240.
- Personnel records of public employees are protected. RCW 42.56.250 & .230.
- Driver vehicle registration is protected. RCW 46.12.380.
- Traffic accident reports are confidential and protected. RCW 46.52.080 and
RCW 46.52.083.
- Results of toxicology or Field Sobriety Tests submitted to at the request of a police officer are protected. RCW 46.61.506(5) and (7) and/or RCW 70.02.010
- Reports and records of autopsies and postmortems are confidential and protected.

- The record contains Official Confidential information which is protected.

If you believe the records withheld or redactions made have been done erroneously, you may request a hearing in the Superior Court in the county in which the record is maintained. If, after the hearing, with notice thereof to every person in interest and the agency, the court determines that the exemption of such records is clearly unnecessary to protect any individual’s right of privacy or any vital governmental function, the inspection of copying of the specific records exempted will be permitted in accordance with the court decision.
