In 2007 and 2008, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the Mason County Commissioners has made considerable strides in enhancing public safety for the citizens of Mason County. We face some very daunting budgetary challenges for 2009 and beyond. Staff cuts appear to be necessary in order to balance the upcoming 2009 budget.

Charitable donations made by two Shelton men made them “Sheriff for a Day.” This was made possible when Sheriff Casey Salisbury donated his time to two fundraisers conducted by Southside School Boosters and Grapeview Elementary School to help the schools fund raising efforts. Both fund raisers were auction events.
Former Jail Superintendent Dies at 64

Former Mason County Deputy and Jail Superintendent, Gaylen Luther Gulbranson, 64, died in his home Friday in Peoria, Arizona. Mr. Gulbranson worked at the Mason County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, Detective and Jail Superintendent between 1971 and 1995.

Meth/Cash Seized By Sheriff's Special Operations Group

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested a 35 year old Shelton man last night at about 8 PM and seized over a pound of methamphetamine valued at about $20,000. Additionally, SOG detectives seized a ½ ounce of cocaine, a ½ ounce of marijuana, $9,820 in cash, and a vehicle.
Counterfeiters Working In Mason County

Counterfeiters have been working in Mason County passing phony $20 bills. Since November 25, counterfeit $20 bills have turned up at several locations in Mason County, the City of Shelton, and in the Olympia-Thurston County areas.
Fleeing Driver Strikes Deputy - Shots Fired

The Mason County Sheriff's Office was investigating the report of a burglary when the suspects attempted to flee, striking a Deputy Sheriff. The Deputy, fearing for his safety, fired shots at the vehicle, but no one was hit. The Deputy struck by the fleeing vehicle was shook up, but not hurt. All three suspects were arrested.

A Mason County Deputy fired a shot at a 24 year old Shelton man early this morning as the Deputy was contacting the man regarding a traffic collision. Neither the suspect nor the Deputy was injured in the incident which occurred at about 6:30 AM at the intersection of Arcadia Road and Stewart Street.

A new 12 passenger van has been delivered to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office for use by the Jail Litter Crew. Under the supervision of Gary Isaacson, jail trustees are assigned to the Litter Crew to clean and clear rights of way on county roads and state highways.

Since July 1, 2008, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office has fully taken over the duties of traffic collision investigation and traffic enforcement on all of Mason County’s 800 plus miles of county roads. According to Sheriff Casey Salisbury “For the first time in over 20 years we have a group of five deputies and a sergeant that are dedicated to making our county roads safer for our citizens.”

Human Remains Found

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains in a wooded area northeast of Collins Lake on the Tahuya Peninsula in Mason County. The discovery was made by a Tahuya man while he and his son were picking mushrooms.
Burglars Arrested - Property Recovered

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office announced today they have arrested two suspects in what they characterize as a major burglary. Detectives have arrested Thomas A Sherrill, 37, Shelton, and Nathan H. White, 21, Shelton. Both Sherrill and White are suspected of committing the burglary of a cabin located at 1013 N. Poosh Me Up Dr, Hoodsport, earlier this month.
Pot Belly Arsonist Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested the person they think is the “Pot Belly Arsonist” yesterday at about 10 AM. David P. Boysen, 40, Shelton was booked into the Mason County Jail on suspicion of first degree arson. Boysen made his first court appearance today. His bail was set at $75,000.
