Authority:  Chief Deputy B.Dean Byrd

Case Number:  10-08344

Shelton, WA - Monday, June 21, 2010

A 25 year old Shelton man was arrested today after an intense high speed chase through the City of Shelton that went for about 12 miles and lasted some ten minutes.  Sheriff’s SWAT team along with Department of Corrections personnel went to an address on East Lavender Lane to arrest Jeromy J. Munoz, Shelton, on several warrants including Escape from Community Custody.  Deputies also say they had probable cause to arrest Munoz for Residential Burglary.  Deputies possessed information that Munoz had been seen with a hand gun and had made statements to the effect that he would do whatever it took to avoid arrest.

As deputies approached the residence a car started then backed up toward the deputies at a high rate of speed.  The deputies jumped out of the way and were not injured.  Munoz and a female passenger identified as Alexandria Misty Rogers, 23, Kingston, fled in Ford Taurus southbound on State Route #3 with deputies in pursuit.  The pursuit continued south on Highway #3 then westbound on the Johns Prairie Road at speeds in excess of 70 mph.  According to deputies the vehicle was traveling at high rates of speed on a break drum as one tire had come off the vehicle.  As sparks flew from the fleeing vehicle, the suspect is alleged to have forced vehicles off of the roadway.  As the suspect approached the Brockdale Road and Johns Prairie, deputies say the vehicle passed stopped vehicles on the right shoulder going through the four way stop without stopping.  The suspect is reported to have continued fleeing going through a red light at Shelton Springs Road narrowly avoiding a collision with a Mason Transit Bus.  The pursuit continued south on Olympic Highway South through Shelton and southbound to the intersection of Highway 101 and State Route #3.  During this portion of the chase, deputies report that the Munoz vehicle was straddling the centerline of the roadway forcing motorist to get off the roadway to avoid collision.  The Munoz vehicle finally stopped at the intersection of Highway 101 and State Route #3 where he and his female passenger were taken into custody.  Both occupants were booked into the Mason County Jail.  No deputies, citizens, or suspects were injured in this incident.

Munoz is currently being held on warrants including escape from community custody and Felony Eluding.  Rogers is being held on investigation of Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.  Bail has not yet been set.  Both suspects are expected to make their first court appearance tomorrow.
