A 55 year old Portland man was found dead in Hood Canal at about 11:25 AM today. According to Mason County Sheriff’s Deputies the man was diving with a partner in Hood Canal near the 38000 block of US Highway 101 when the two became separated. The man’s partner surfaced to look for him to no avail. The diver’s partner then summoned additional help from other divers in the immediate vicinity. Sheriff’s Deputies and medical aid were summoned at about the same time.
When deputies arrived at the scene they learned the missing diver had just been found in about 38 feet of water and brought to shore. Rescuers applied CPR on the man when they reached the shore. All attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
This case remains under investigation by the Mason County Sheriffs Office and the Mason County Coroner’s Office. The victims name is being withheld at this time pending next of kin. More information will be available on this case after 9AM on Monday.
