Sheriff's K-9 Fundraiser Meets Goal

Mason County Sheriff, Casey Salisbury announced today the Patrol K-9 fund raising project has met its initial goal of raising $25,000 to start a K-9 Patrol Dog Program. Sheriff’s Office fundraising efforts began in August. So far more than 80 contributions have been received that range from $5,000 down to a few dollars.

Mason County Deputies are investigating Burglary that investigators say will probably exceed $50,000 in value. The burglary was reported on Thursday at 1:40 PM when a Union man went to the home of his mother and stepfather located in the 12000 block of State Route 106.
Sheriff's Office Receives Federal Grant

The Mason County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce the award under the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 of $611,610 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance's "Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs" solicitation. Mason County's application was considered among the hundreds submitted by organizations serving rural populations throughout the US. The amount awarded constitutes the largest Recovery and Reinvestment Act award in the State of Washington to this date.
Arbitration for Deputies Labor Contract Delayed

Mason County Sheriff’s Deputies will have to wait even longer for a new labor contract. The September 21, arbitration between Mason County and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Employees Guild has been delayed pending a decision on an unfair labor practice complaint filed by Mason County on Wednesday, September 16 two days prior to the scheduled arbitration date.

Traffic Accident Claims Life of 18 Year Old Woman

An 18 year old Shelton woman was killed in a one car collision early Sunday Morning four miles south of Union. According to investigators from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Team, Janelle S. Mills, of Shelton, was southbound on the McCreavy Road at a high rate of speed when her 1994 Mazda Protégé left the roadway and rolled several times. According to investigators, Mills was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this incident. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports. This case is still under investigation by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff’s Deputies today launched a second search for David J. Curtis, 42, Shelton. Investigators aided by more than 60 searchers from Mason, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, King, Pierce and Skamania Counties are again combing the heavily wooded area around Mill Creek about 2 1/2 miles east of Shelton.
