Robbery, Shooting And Car Crash On Hwy. 3

Shelton, WA - Friday, May 29, 2015

On Sunday, May 24, 2015, at approximately 1:13 AM, MACECOM Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call that there was a vehicle collision and the sound of gun fire in the area of 18270 State Route 3, Allyn, WA.

Deputies responded to find that a man had been robbed at gun point outside of the Spencer Lake Tavern and $1,900.00 in cash had been taken.  The robbery victim and a friend then pursued the suspects that had fled in two different vehicles, both driving northbound on State Route 3. 

During the pursuit, it is alleged that one of the suspects discharged a firearm at the pursuing victim.  It is then alleged that the victim then discharged a firearm at the fleeing suspects.

One of the suspect’s vehicles crashed and caught fire in the area of 18270 State Route 3, Allyn, WA.  The other suspects in the first vehicle stopped, retrieved one of the occupants and then continued to flee north toward Belfair.  The victim and his friend continued to pursue the suspects.

Deputies stopped the victim and his friend.  The victim was later arrested.  A person at the crash site was detained and later arrested.  A third person involved in the incident was contacted and later arrested.

Due to the on-going investigation, no names or any further information will be released at this time.


Homicide In Belfair

Shelton, WA - Tuesday, March 17, 2015

On Monday, May 25, 2015, at approximately 3:40 PM, MACECOM Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from friends that went to check up on their next door neighbor and found him deceased at 150 NE Southridge Drive, Belfair, WA.

Deputies responded to the scene and found that the individual had been shot and no firearm was found next to the body.

Detectives were called to the scene and began an investigation.  A search warrant was conducted at the victim’s residence and clues to the identity of the suspects were later discovered.  A second search warrant was conducted at a suspect’s house in Belfair.

Two individuals were arrested in the investigation of murder.  Those suspects were identified as Christopher Glen Redfern, 27 years old from Port Orchard and Daniel Alan Dunn, 35 years old from Belfair.

An autopsy was conducted on the victim and the Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell released the name of the victim as Charles Albion Austin, 51 from Belfair, WA.

No further information is being provided since the investigation is on-going.


Sheriff Recognizes Local Business Partnership

Ben Fraser of Fraser Metal Works was presented an Award of Appreciation at the Sheriff’s monthly Law Enforcement Breakfast held at the Little Creek Casino Friday, May 29, 2015.  Fraser’s business was recognized for their fabrication of a specialized piece of equipment for the Mason County Regional S.W.A.T. Team.  

Sheriff Casey Salisbury said,” Without partnerships between the Sheriff’s office and local businesses, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish half of what we do.”

Mounted on a light armored vehicle, the LAV Ram is designed to breach doors and fences at a distance allowing S.W.A.T. members to maintain positions of relative safety.  Broadening visibility and expanding distance will increase safety for both the S.W.A.T. members and the public.

Serving as key note speaker at the breakfast was Tom McBride representing the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys.  He addressed law enforcement shootings and the legal standards to which law enforcement officers are held both criminally and civilly and the processes involved during the legal investigation phases.

The monthly Law Enforcement Breakfast draws together first responders from multiple agencies in the region including fire, medical, legal, and law enforcement personnel as well as retirees and public-minded citizens.  Keynote speakers are invited to address topics affecting communities, public service, and current trends.

The founder and president of “All K-9’s Go To Heaven”, Marti Tennant, joined together with a Seattle Seahawks football player and purchased a K-9 Storm Kevlar “bullet proof” vest for $2,300.00.  The vest was then donated to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office patrol K-9 “Solo”.
