The Mason County Sheriff's Office is a Washington State Accredited, full service Sheriff's Office with 49 Commissioned personnel, 29 Jail personnel, 2 Community Service Officers and 17 administrative support personnel. Mason County, population 54,000, is located near the foothills of the Olympic Mountains and the Olympic National Forest. It is 961 square miles in area with approximately 300 miles of salt water front on South Puget Sound and Hood Canal. There are 200 fresh water lakes. The County Seat, Shelton, is 22 miles northwest of Olympia, the State Capitol. Mason County is a close neighbor to the cities of Olympia and Bremerton. Mason County offers a rich variety of social, cultural, and recreational opportunities for people of all ages. The Olympic National Park, Pacific Ocean Beaches, and the Olympic Mountains are within an hour's drive from Shelton.
