ARMED ROBBER APPREHENDED BY MCSO K9 TEAM
A 46 year-old Pierce County man armed with two kitchen knives was apprehended by an MCSO K9 team Friday evening, May 13, 2016 on Harstine Island, East of Shelton. After a 4- mile track through timber lands, Curtis Wedvik was arrested on charges of Burglary 1st degree and Robbery 1st degree.
Wedvik was discovered burglarizing a home on South Island Drive by a 17 year-old male resident returning home from school. The resident reported to 9-1-1 dispatchers that he had located an unknown male in his living room who was armed with a thick-bladed butcher knife and a steak knife. Wedvik reportedly threatened the resident at knife point demanding money and ordering him not to call 9-1-1. Wedvik then ran past the resident out the back door of the home and into a nearby wooded area.
Deputies responded and conducted a K9 track of the suspect, locating him hiding in brush along a dirt road. The K9 was deployed to apprehend the individual due to him being reportedly armed with knives. Two knives were located on Wedvik matching the description of the knives identified by the 17 year-old reporting party. The knives, along with other property located with Wedvik, were positively identified by the home owner as stolen from his residence.
During his arrest, Wedvik was confirmed to be a missing person from Pierce County entered on May 11, 2016. He was transported to the jail without further incident.
